The innovative use of ICT can be used to enhance professional development. Pakaraka School has created an environment where everyone is a learner. It uses ICT to capture the weekly lesson of a visiting teacher of Te Reo Māori.

What I have done is I start videotaping her lesson using a little web camera and an omni directional microphone. We film these in two to five minute clips, save it to the hard drive, and it gives me a great opportunity to go home and revisit her lessons. And more importantly, then sit with my students in small groups and engage them in looking at the video.

As the confidence of the teachers in Te Reo Māori has grown, so has the confidence of the students.

The Māori children would like to see their own language being spoken from a European. "Oh wow, they speak Māori too, and it’s cool".
