Ka Hikitia - Managing for Success
This story from Rotorua Boys’ High emphasises the inseparable nature of reo and tikanga (language and culture), an integral part of the school’s programme.
The school has proactively adopted a holistic view of success, encompassing cultural, academic and sporting success. In line with the Ministry’s Māori Education Strategy, Ka Hikitia, the school promotes the importance of culture, language and identity. Students have the opportunity to achieve education success as Māori. Consequently, their self-esteem and confidence is stronger, such that they can embrace more challenges.
The school also values local knowledge, with this kind of input contributing directly to students’ work.
