27/05/2011
This is an evaluation report of a pilot PD programme to upskill English medium teachers of Māori language in secondary schools, specifically around second language teaching methods, the Māori language curriculum guidelines, planning, assessment, teaching/learning strategies, and the use of resources.
The evaluation looked at how the programme was implemented, its impact, enablers/ barriers, and key learnings.
Key factors contributing to the programme’s success included the communicative approach used in the PD delivery, the practical use of the Māori curriculum guidelines to plan a unit, observational visits by the programme provider, and the opportunity to establish networks with peers.
