Te Kotahitanga – Alfriston College

In this story the Principal, two Te Kotahitanga facilitators and a teacher, discuss how Te Kotahitanga has impacted on their school. At the heart of this new school is a strong focus on whanaungatanga that begins with the students and extends throughout the school and into the community.

Within the school teachers are committed to cycles of critical reflection driven by student evidence and ongoing attention to improving pedagogy.

Questions / Things to think about

  1. How are you making sure that your school is focussed on the achievement your Māori students?
  2. How can you ensure this focus is shared across the whole school and management?
  3. How do the school structures support this focus? How do they block this focus?
