Iwi education partnerships

Iwi education partnerships are relationships that iwi, or iwi-based organisations, have with the Crown to improve Māori education outcomes. The partnerships allow iwi to work together with the Ministry to design and implement education solutions.

Central to the partnerships is a focus on strengthening the role of parents and whānau through:

  • kanohi ki te kanohi support and advice
  • better information/knowledge about education
  • more support for Māori language and culture.

The iwi partners have three goals, to:

  • restore a learning culture to iwi
  • ensure that Māori students receive a quality education that enables them to contribute to society
  • preserve and promote iwi forms of knowledge.
